Read this in your best Sam Elliott drawl:

Throughout the vast landscape of time, there are a few moments more important to humankind than the first time we created fire. As our prehistoric ancestors gathered around that initial smoldering ember, they couldn’t have imagined it would lead to villages, to governments, to art, heck, to humanoid robots with the voice of a teenage knucklehead. Everything we’ve ever created leads back to our ability to harness fire. That makes us proud to be in the fire business.  Because it’s not just a Zippo- it’s 400,000 years of human evolution in a two inch case.

ZIPPO: A 2024 Fire Odyssey

If a Zippo lighter traveled back in time hundreds of thousands of years, our ancient ancestors would have their minds absolutely blown. Earth’s most powerful element can appear with the flick of their thumb? It must be a gift from the gods.

We want to give humans today that same mind blowing moment.

Well, pretty close.

With inspiration drawn from 2001: A Space Odyssey, epic monolith-esque Zippos will appear in the most mundane of public areas: a highway rest area, the DMV parking lot, a low-trafficked bus stop.

As people approach this mysterious structure, they will find hidden spots on the monolith that when pressed, a limited edition Zippo is deposited. Each monolith will hold a different lighter design, creating buzz as people try to locate the other monoliths and collect all five designs.

Limited edition Zippo collection: Mankind’s Milestones

Planet Zippo narrated by David Attenborough*

*or someone that really sounds like him

With footage filmed by hidden cameras set up in and around the monolith, we will create social content in the style of a nature doc with David Attenborough-esque narration detailing the peculiar behavior of our remarkable species.

Because at the end of the day, we’re really just monkeys curious about the mysterious wonder of fire.
